Food and drink professionals from across the country are counting down the days until this year’s National Food and Drink Conference and Exhibition. The tantalising event which takes place on the 5th of September in the Citywest Convention Centre is the largest gathering of its kind in Ireland.
Over 3,000 key decision makers from a wide range of sectors including retail and food service industries, food processing and food technologies are set to attend. The event promises unique insights into the food and drink industry through a range of seminars and panel discussions.
Key speakers for this years event include:
- Minister of State at the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine, Andrew Doyle
- CEO of the Irish Exporters Association, Simon McKeever
- Chief Specialist in food technology at The Food Safety Authority of Ireland, Dr Patrick O’Mahony
3,000 food industry professionals, 200 speakers and 170 exhibitors will take part in talks on growth, development, trade and markets. Despite it being a remarkable year for food and drink due to unfavourable weather conditions, when it comes to food production Ireland remains one of the most scientifically advanced countries in the world. The country maintains its position globally as a “big ingredients” country due to food production and processing levels. The emphasis on production and the knock on effect of the Beast from the East followed by the Irish heatwave will all play a key part in this year’s event.
Recent figures from IBEC Food Drink Ireland show the agri-food sector is worth €27.5 billion and that it accounts for 250,000 jobs. It’s also been revealed that there were €12.6 billion worth of exports to 180 countries last year with Ireland exporting over 80% of its dairy and beef production. The current state and challenging conditions for agri-farming will be a hot topic at this years event.
“It’s been a hugely challenging year for Irish farmers due to remarkable weather conditions. We will be bringing Ireland’s top food and drink producers together to discuss overcoming those challenges and the future of food production in tackling climate change.” Colin Murphy, Organiser, National Food and Drink Conference and Exhibition.
